This is a fun technique I played with today with a group of artists at Kay's studio. This is a mixed media watercolor, using everything but the kitchen sink and it is still intact at Kays! It is 9X12 on Strathmore paper. Kay commented that she had never seen me work so small, but I wanted to get finished today so that is why I worked smaller. I normally do 1/2 sheet or full sheet.  It was a fun day with a wonderful group of ladies...just artin around. Thanks Kay!

My Workshop Still Life

15x15 watercolor, oil pastels, colored pencils, wax candle on 140 lb Saunders cold press. After a sketchy drawing with CPs, I used a white candle to mark flowers. Texture medium was applied at random on dry paper as was watercolor. I color sanded CPs by grating their colored lead onto rough sandpaper letting that fall into wet paint. This Trevena style was the subject of my studio workshop today in which perspective is ignored, backruns are encouraged, and brilliant color enhanced. The black edged coffee table in the foreground has movie stars b&w photos and it sits upright looking at the viewer; at its far right is Clark Gable, my hero, and the most handsome man who ever lived. Glass vases come down towards the viewer. Masking tape used to create diagonals and OPs were used at the end to pop roses centers.

Well we wished for Spring but summer is beating down on us already. I finished this one today.

Ann's Troll

Kay do you remember when we went to Ann Templeton's house in New Mexico? She had so many interesting things in her house and studio.  This is Ann's mantel that I took photos of and now I have painted the poor ole troll in all her finest! That was a fun trip! This watercolor is painted on Arches paper and is 22x28.

Yay!!!

Thank you, I love you Tom Lynch, for jurying Asian Persimmons into the Society of Watercolor Artists in Ft. Worth upcoming show. This acceptance is number 5 and is the final one for signature status with this group. Just last month I learned that I made sig status with WAS-H in Houston with Pastry Chef.

Here is my Asian piece, 15x22. I used the large cement Oriental figure you've seen at my house, real Asian persimmons from Rose Chau, my nail lady, an ornate Indian sewn pillow cover on which to set the fruit. It was morning sun backlit for the photo.
