Fall Forest - an negative painting exercise

11x7.5 watercolor negative painting exercise where you draw one level of tree and branches, then another and another. Paint each succeeding level a different color to indicate depth. Here there are 5 planes from foreground to background. We learned this when we took Linda Kemp's class in Lubbock a few years back. It really teaches you how to discern depth. At the end when dry I splattered paint to suggest leaves.

Splats - negative painting in layers

A year ago this demo, 7.5x11, was done for WetCanvas' Watercolor forum in the Learning Zone. First you get a large brush, stand on a chair and squeeze drops from a round brush to fall onto the paper laying flat. Then develop around the flowers, foliage, stems and branches in layers painting negative shapes.
