Leada's Mixed Media Demo in Big Spring

Tonight at Big Spring Art Association's opening fall meeting, guest artist Leada Wood of Colorado City (one of our Caboose gals) showed the crowd at Heritage Museum how to do her mixed media.  Using canvas and gel mediums, handmade papers and stamps, Leada incorporates these plus found objects into her abstractions.

"Dreams Of Mine"

"Dreams Of Mine" by Leada Wood (c)2010 Mixed Media Collage
All Rights Reserved

I created this for the Caboose Watercolor Society's Christmas party. We always have an art exchange and this year I decided to do my art on the cover of a sketch book so that my friend can enjoy it all year long! I also included some grey scale markers to make sketching a little easier. I hope she likes it!

"Under His Wing" by Leada Wood

"Under His Wing" by Leada Wood (C)2010
All Rights Reserved

This was my last painting that I had started for the Angels We Have Heard On High show but alas it didn't get finished in time. I just finished it yesterday and thought I would share it with you anyway. This work is 12X24 inches on crescent illustration board and has layers of texture and painted with liquid acrylics. I used real feathers for the wing, glued one at a time! I embelished the raised stars with embossing medium. There is a lost and found message throughout the painting. Hope you can make our show and see all our heavenly angels!

This painting is 20 x 20 inches on Crescent Illustration Board and will be part of the upcoming Caboose Watercolor Society angel show.

Rising Sun

Rising Suns by Leada Wood (c) 2010 All Rights Reserved
Here is one of my 5X7 paintings that is in the traveling 5x7 Show. The show started at the Jones Art House in Austin and will have an opening in Dallas, Tx. August 27th at the Dunn and Brown Contemporary Gallery.  It is a mixed media collage with hand painted papers on mat board with watercolors. It is quiet a challenge making a collage in such a small space, but I always enjoy a challenge!

Tea Party

Tea Party by Leada Wood (c) 2010 All Rights Reserved
This a a small canvas,6x6, acrylics, collage and my first attempt at encaustics. I am trying to find a way to do encaustics with acrylics and not have to use oil paints. I thought my first attempt was not too bad and I will probably do some more, as they are quite fun. Has anyone had a go with encaustics?

Mad Hatter's Tea Party

This is a fun little painting I finished today.  It is only 8x10.  I copied the words from my Little Golden Book I had when I was a child and collaged them onto the background, I then painted the teacup with gesso and finished it with watercolors.  The characters are a combination of watercolor and prisim color pencils.  I did this painting on watermedia board.  All Rights Reserved by Leada Wood, (c) 2010

"COSMIC ENERGY'

This is another one of my collages going to Kerrville Art Center.  It is 9x11, watercolor on Arches paper.  I painted different kinds of thin papers and stamped on them with my hand made stamps, added texture here and there, layered the papers and added the Japanese symbol for energy. I then used some objects I had in my treasure trove and embelished  it until it made me smile!

'ARTIN AROUND'

This is one of my watercolor collages that is going to Kerrville Art Center for our upcoming show.  It is made from tissue papers that I painted and decorated with stamps I carve. I then start layering the papers  and adding a little gold glitz and embelishments until I feel it is finished.  I can't think of Artin' Around without thinking of Linda...she is always ready to go artin' around! If you haven't tried it is fun! Just ask Linda...and artin' around with collages is FUN for Leada! This collage is 8x10.
