"Soar" by Leada Wood, Texas Artist

"Soar" Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

"Dream" Copyright 2015 Leada Wood

I am so embarrassed that I have not posted on our blog for a while...isn't it funny how time slips away as the song by Willie says.

I have been playing around with my paints, collage papers and using some of those supplies I have stashed away!  I enjoy using words and phrases in my mixed media art, pushing and pulling the paint until it becomes a veil of color and adding lots of layers. I also delight in the dreamy colors that appear. Playtime is always good in the studio, it helps me to grow as an artist...try things I wouldn't otherwise dare. Creativity takes courage and as Pablo says " inspiration exists but it must find you working"

This is 12x16, batik watercolor on very transparent paper. This technique is fun to do but tricky! It gives an interesting look unlike any other technique I have run across. This little taste of Texas is for sale! Contact me.

This is a mixed media watercolor on an altered background using hand painted papers and is 15X22. She was a fun girl to paint! I added a little bling around her headband to give her a little more attitude.

Trees From Walton Workshop by Leada Wood

Estelle's Trees from Walton Workshop 2012

Sue's Trees from Walton Workshop 2012

Leada's Tree from Walton Workshop 2012

This was one day of painting in this year's Walton Workshop.
We had to draw 10 tree shapes and then Douglas chose the one that we were to put on paper and paint. We did an underpainting and then used black paint and then Carmenized the rest of the painting. The paintings were as different as the artist in the class. It was a very interesting exercise. We did a lot of journey drawings and underpaintings and had a wonderful time taking our art to a new level. Douglas is an expert at bringing your creativity to an all time high! If you have not been experienced with Douglas Walton you must give it a try!

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood©

Cozy Kitty by Leada Wood ©

This cute kitty lives down the road from Studio Twenty at Lattie's Mexican Imports. This chiminera sets on her counter with Tootles laying, waiting for Lattie to wiggle his feather toy at the top. Then he springs into action and it is Play Time! This painting has been in process for a while as I have been side tracked with torn paper collage paintings, but I finally got er done!

New Collage: Pick Your Own

16x20 torn paper collage on gallery wrapped canvas, finished today after working on it all week! Based on an earlier watercolor, I sketched its outline directly onto the support with a black Sharpie, then began adhering colored magazine page scraps with gloss/varnish medium.

"Tiger Lilly" by Leada Wood

"Tiger Lilly" by Leada Wood (C) 2011 All Rights Reserved

This is a fun technique I played with today with a group of artists at Kay's studio. This is a mixed media watercolor, using everything but the kitchen sink and it is still intact at Kays! It is 9X12 on Strathmore paper. Kay commented that she had never seen me work so small, but I wanted to get finished today so that is why I worked smaller. I normally do 1/2 sheet or full sheet.  It was a fun day with a wonderful group of ladies...just artin around. Thanks Kay!

"Dreams Of Mine"

"Dreams Of Mine" by Leada Wood (c)2010 Mixed Media Collage
All Rights Reserved

I created this for the Caboose Watercolor Society's Christmas party. We always have an art exchange and this year I decided to do my art on the cover of a sketch book so that my friend can enjoy it all year long! I also included some grey scale markers to make sketching a little easier. I hope she likes it!

"Under His Wing" by Leada Wood

"Under His Wing" by Leada Wood (C)2010
All Rights Reserved

This was my last painting that I had started for the Angels We Have Heard On High show but alas it didn't get finished in time. I just finished it yesterday and thought I would share it with you anyway. This work is 12X24 inches on crescent illustration board and has layers of texture and painted with liquid acrylics. I used real feathers for the wing, glued one at a time! I embelished the raised stars with embossing medium. There is a lost and found message throughout the painting. Hope you can make our show and see all our heavenly angels!
