Dead Vehicle Challenge

James Gurney posted a challenge...Paint a dead vehicle. One that doesn't run. Car or truck.
I wanted to do this old vehicle for a while so I set up there and did it.  It had to be painted on location, and you had to post a photo of your easel, etc.  This old international is in Plains, TX.
I started out trying to use oils but I don't paint enough with oil to know what to do, so I ended up using a sketchbook, and drawing it with my fountain pen and ink, then painted with watercolor and a little gouache.

This old car is on the side of the road close to Hereford, TX. I loved the way it looked against the train car with the Graffiti. 

Art Exhibit at Howard County Junior College

Arts Festival in Lubbock TX

Two pieces of my art was accepted in the gallery at the Lubbock Arts Festival.
It is open to the public April 16-17.

The juror is Paul Milosevich of Santa Fe, NM.

Summer Fun by Suzy Pal Powell

I have been invited to do a workshop with the group 'Sisters on the Fly' in October.
I am so excited to get to meet them and see their cute campers.  This is 'practice' to get ready.
It was fun but a little tedious since it is only 8x10.  The Silver didn't want to stick, so I had some issues with it, but was a fun piece to do!

Keri's Jacks

I still have Keri's Jacks and Kenley's Marbles they played with when they were little.
This was a fun poured painting.  I put them on a piece of watercolor paper and set them in the late afternoon sun to get the shadows. 

The Nursery by Suzy Pal Powell

I have worked several days on this collage. I have an oriole nest to work from. They are unbelievable!
The way they find strings, twine and other stuff to go into the baby's home!
I have one that has 3-4 different colors of stuff in it. I just love to study them.

Past Life

I could not think of a name for this painting.  For years I sewed every day, making all our clothes as well as sewing for the public.  One day, I stopped. The thought of sewing is not anything I enjoy thinking about.  I found these old wooden spools that I still had and thought they might make a good set up.  The cloth under them is from a wedding gift...50 years ago. It is colorful cut-work that was on pillowcases.  Cut work is very time consuming and hard.  It takes hours and hours to hand stitch the designs.  This is 6x6 oil on gessobord.

I set up outside and did the water tank across the road from our house and loved every minute of painting it!! It is 6x6 oil.

The Girl-y painting is to go with the shaving mug! It is oil too. 6x6

The cow...'I Can't See' is watercolor and gouache.  6x6
