Tulips in Antique Vase ala Trevena style

22x15 watercolor on textured Fabriano 140 lb hot press paper, done right after last Saturday's workshop at my studio. I wanted to capture the essence of spring tulips and their softness played against old china vase ala Shirley Trevena style. Wax candle marks are also within this. Paper was partially coated while dry with 1/2 gesso and 1/2 water in a 1:1 ratio. After that dried I sponged on Winsor Newton texture medium in a few places. I did use colored pencils to draw with and Caran D'Ache watersoluble crayons for a bit of intense color here and there. Some negative painting done too in the background and this piece was done in about 2 hours. It got good reviews on WetCanvas, my personal blog, but not many on Art Colony blog, probably not photorealistic enough.
