Wild and Wacky Fuchsia Ball

10.5 x 8 watercolor begun a few days ago then finished today during the continuous snow. No one was out shopping so I stayed in the studio and painted. For this image, I used a large hot pink fuchsia Christmas ornament. Light reflections are the shapes seen within. For shapes outside the sphere, I drew a nail polish bottle and let its top rounded edge be seen within the ball. Lastly I used a rubber stencil stamp to make the curlicue marks for patterns. Some of these lacy looking areas were imaginary on the polish bottle as seen on far lower right. Merry Christmas to all of you!

Lesson was on using the Munsell color wheel, complementary color triads, etc. Here I used a combination of blues as the neutral with orange and gamboge accents. I used 140 lb Fabriano hot press paper with American Journey paints by Cheap Joe's.

Here are the 3 paintings done while in Liz Hill's Cypress Mill workshop at Wenmoh's Ranch. Many drawings were done in the 3 days but only a few worth painting were attempted. All have collage elements, charcoal, watercolor, gouache, and oil pastel added. Many new ideas were learned and new paths to travel are for the adventurous artist. Hopefully Sue, Leada, and Carol will post theirs soon. We hope Dena Wenmohs will ask Liz to return next year.

Liz Hill was a great teacher, we had a different model each day and would draw in the mornings and paint in the afternoons. It is not your ordinary figurative workshop. Liz teaches you to draw with charcoal on prepared surfaces and then paint the figures in watercolors. It makes unusual and exciting figurative paintings. Caboose Annual Show "We Love Our Pets"

Last Friday Sept. 23, our Caboose group had its opening reception at the Heritage Museum in Big Spring. Here are some shots of that evening. I hope the rest of the group can get by to see the lovely display of our pets. Thanks to members of the BS Art Association who attended the reception and also the community supporters. A very big thanks to the staff of the museum for hanging the show; the green walls backdrop was just perfect! I was so excited and honored today when I opened our weekly newspaper and the New Commers Guide fell out and my painting made the cover! The painting was a 22x28 watercolor a client had commissioned for her husband for their 25th anniversary. She brought all the items to my studio and I sat up a still life and painted from it. They were members of the BS Art Association and painted in all media and they invited me into their group and their world. We have been through love and loss each one of us and our friendship's remained strong held together by the bond of our art. Mary has been painting again, Linda has been moving again, and I have been silently thanked the Lord for sending these wonderful friends my way along with the other Caboose gals. You're the best!!!

Playing with props

Linda was at the lake this weekend with her Sweetie at their hide away and dropped by Studio Twenty and we decided that we would take some of my stuff and set up still lifes and do a photo shoot. She took my picture while I was setting up yet another Asian themed still life. Saturday, May 21st was big fun at Studio Twenty! I had a mixed media workshop with artists from Sweetwater, Dallas and Budapest Hungary. This cute couple is from Humgary and are adorable! They were here visiting her mom so they all came to the workshop. Everyone worked so hard and had two really fabulous paintings going. 22x15 watercolor on Italia Acquerello 140 cold press paper finished up today. Linda's challenge called for us to use magnolia photos as inspiration, so that I did, using only a black and white print. All color is fabricated as are the leaves and blooms. Her photos were white blooms so mine are pink tinged. Look closely and you can see negative stems and shapes hiding amongst the tree branches.

Went to Lamesa for a WS with JoBeth . Their were 10 ladies & everyone brought hats. So we had lots of different kinds of hats. This is the first watercolor I did from one of the set ups. More hats will be done from my photos of hats, hats hats.

Good Old Summer Time by Leada Wood©

My daises are blooming, hibiscus, petunias, snapdragons, geraniums, pentas, and zinnas at Dragonfly Farm. At last summer has arrived! The sunflowers have not shown their happy little faces, still a little early for them though. Couldn't resist doing an old straw hat with a few sunflowers thrown in. I have exciting news! I was juried into the Artists of Texas today! What an honor to be a member of such a fine group of artists.

Bloomsday Pansies Collage

16x20 collage on canvas begun yesterday in Susie's workshop and finished up today after 4-5 more hours...I swear these can go on forever, but TOTAL FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This composition is based on my watercan and pansies drawing painted in watercolor a few months ago.

Magnolia by Leada Wood©

Here is my little Magnolia for Linda's challenge. It is 9x11 on Strathmore paper. It looks a little more lavender on the computer screen than real life, I may have to reshoot it outside in the shade and see if the color is truer. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of you gals magnolia paintings. Bring It!

This photo shows Susie Powell hard at work doing collage on canvas while Linda Rupard takes shots from the front. Suz showed us her coffee cup demo and was a pure joy watching her work and seeing her designs on canvas from clowns to bicycles to chefs...wish you could all have been there.

We had such fun at Studio Twenty today with Suzy Pal and a great group of ladies. We ripped and tore paper from magazines and glued all day! I stayed after class and finished my geisha because I could not wait to see her finished! Now I am waiting on all the others to see how theirs turn out...it is very exciting to see them take shape. Using only paper, no paint, we used the papers to add value, texture, shape and color. What fun! and it might be addictive! Ok Kay get busy and get yours done...I'm waiting to see it!

This round mountain is to the South of my house. Can imagine smoke signals coming from the top of Signal Mountain. We had many different Indian Tribes & other tralvers coming through our area because of all the springs in & near here.
